Licensed since Nov. 1982, my legal experience is extremely varied and now provides me with a strong base of knowledge and wisdom that comes only through time. A graduate of the University of Houston College of Law, I began my career as an assistant district attorney in Galveston County. Needing the amenities of a larger city, I moved to Austin, where I worked for a major family law firm. During this time, I gained valuable trial experience before both juries and judges.  I chose to then join a successful general civil litigation firm which further developed my trial and negotiating skills. I logged many hours preparing and serving as counsel during both jury trials and bench trials.
It was with the passing of my beloved father, that I decided to reassess my legal career. I knew that I had something special to offer people who needed my legal expertise as well as my compassion. I understood the importance of being sensitive to the needs of my clients while getting the job done for them at a most difficult time in their lives. And I felt called to protect my clients, their families, assets and legacies.   Julia at Work

I knew then that I would focus my law practice in the areas of probate and estate planning, a more service based career path. Seeking to educate myself and stay abreast of current statutory laws, case law, trends and court holdings, I’ve taken more than one hundred hours of continuing legal education classes in this field of law, annually, and will continue to do so. As a solo practitioner, I have the flexibility to bring a personal element, a service based attitude toward my clients, meeting with them in their offices and homes if so desired. Again, you, the client, are my primary focus.

And it was at about that same time in my career that I knew that I wanted to mediate, to facilitate communication that would result in conflict resolution. Having negotiated many difficult parties and settlements, I realized that I could put that experience to work as a peacemaker. I immediately signed up to take the basic 40 hour mediation course, received that certificate, and then quickly earned a family law mediation certification. I then found a very skilled, busy mediator here in Austin, observed his work, participated in some of the processes and began my own practice. Working as a pro bono and private mediator, I acquired enough experience to earn the ‘credentialed mediator’ designation from the acclaimed and respected Texas Mediator Credentialing Association. From the basic barking dog case to the multi-party business dispute, I am qualified and eager to mediate a myriad of topics and find solutions to the problems, craft agreements, engage opportunities for reconciliation, understanding and settlements…efficiently and affordably.
